The Anime Studio Experience with Japan Awaits is a 3-hour small group join-in experience where guests will visit a local Anime School/ Anime Studio in Tokyo to learn about how anime are created, attend a short workshop to learn how to draw anime and manga characters, and visit the Anime Museum to learn about the history of anime.

This is the perfect tour for anime and manga lovers. In this 3-hour tour accompanied by an English-speaking tour guide, visit the Nakano and Suginami area which are near where many of the animation studios in Tokyo are based. First, you will visit the Anime Museum in Suginami, Tokyo, where guests will learn about the history of anime, the process of animation and the most famous anime that were created in Japan. Next, you will visit an Anime School (which includes a small Anime Studio inside) where the professional animation artist will go over the fundamentals of animation, as well as teach guests how to draw some of the anime characters that they have produced. After learning about anime and manga from the anime artist and trying their hand at drawing, the guests will take a tour of the Anime Studio to truly understand the process of how anime are created from the animator’s point of view.

For 1 person bookings with standard option, please note that if others do not join the same event, this experience may be canceled, as we cannot operate with 1 guest only (this does not apply to private bookings). We may ask you to reschedule for another event date, or if there are no other availability, we will cancel this booking and provide you with a full refund.

Age Requirement

Minimum age for admission is 4 years old. Adult pricing applies to all guests aged 4 and above. Guests aged 4 to 17 must be accompanied by a guardian aged 18 or older, who is responsible for their compliance with Anime School/ Anime Studio policies. Failure to comply may result in refusal of entry or tour discontinuation, with no refund provided.

Payment

All bookings are payable via Stripe (Booking Checkout) or Flywire. Confirmations regarding your booking will be sent at least 10 days before your activity date.

Cancellation Policy

Standard Cancellation Policy:

  • We will charge a cancellation fee of 100% if booking is cancelled 7 days or less before event
  • We will charge a cancellation fee of 50% if booking is cancelled 14 days or less before event
  • We will charge a cancellation fee of 25% if booking is cancelled 20 days or less before event

What if I’m late?

We ask that all guests arrive at the location at least 10 minutes before the designated meet-up time. Since this is a group tour, we may not be able to wait for you if you are late. The tour will begin without the late guests and you can meet the rest of the group at the next location. Guests are provided with the tour guides’ phone number before the tour and you can call the tour guide if you need to meet the group in the next location.

Anime is a particular style of animation that originated or is associated with Japan. Anime can be hand-drawn and/or computer-animated, and is generally characterized with high contrast, bright colors, and with thematic science fiction/fantasy elements in its storyline.

Anime began in the early 20th century in Japan, and is known all over the world. The influence of the anime industry can be found everywhere around Japan, with over 430 anime production studios constantly producing new content for international consumption. In 2016, Japanese anime accounts for 60% of the world’s animated television shows and brings in more than $19 billion USD a year.
